I write this by way of a contrast theological to a very detailed
page
from another site:
The Lord declared Himself through the Holy Prophets in the Old
Covenant days, that a NEW covenant was coming:
The New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:
31Behold, the days come, says the LORD,
that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the
house of Judah:
32Not
according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took
them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; my covenant which they
broke, although I was a husband unto them, says the LORD:
33But
this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After
those days, says the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write
it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34And
they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother,
saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them
unto the greatest of them, says the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity,
and I will remember their sin no more.
The New Covenant does not abolish the Old Covenant but
in fact it brings it's precepts and tenants to COMPLETION, that is to
it's intended ultimate RESULT and fruit, by addressing the SPIRIT of the Law.

Matthew 5:17
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have come
not to abolish them but to fulfill them."
What did he mean by this? The Greek word for "fulfill"
isplerosai.
According to Greek scholars, the nuance and meaning of this word
is difficult to express in English, and several possibilities have been offered.
These are summarized by four options:
1. Jesus came to accomplish or obey
the Holy Scriptures,
2. to bring out the full meaning of
the Holy Scriptures,
3. to bring those Scriptures to their
intended completion,
4. to emphasize that the Scriptures
point to him as Messiah and are fulfilled in his salvation work.
The New Covenant goes to the HEART of what God desires to see in
His people which is reflected in the letter of theTEN COMMANDMENTS and described
in more detail by the fuller Jewish Law and the way it requires a Nation of
people to behave toward God and toward each other.
Romans 3:31 "Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May
it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law...."
Matthew 22:
36. "Teacher, which Commandment in Torah
is the greatest?"
37. And Y'shua said to him, that "You
should love Master YHWH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your might and with all your mind."
38. This is the first and the greatest
Commandment.
39. And the second is like it. That "You
should love your neighbor as yourself."
40. On these two commandments hang Torah
and the prophets.
Jeremiah 31:32
King James Version (KJV)
32Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the
land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto
them, saith the LORD:
The Jews calculated that there were 613 laws in their Holy
Scriptures

Contrast this "laws on the heart" with the 613 (Mitzvot)
commandments?
