I recently heard it commented that"No one sees themselves as the villain."
This goes along well with the idea that right and wrong should all be seen as relative to the individuals point a few, which has become the dominant philosophy in U.S.
The scripture puts this idea of "No one sees themselves as the villan" this way:
<< Proverbs 21:2 >>
King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
New Living Translation (©2007)
People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart.
<< Proverbs 12:15 >>
King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
New International Version (©1984)
The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice.
Scriptures confirm the same truth that entire nations and communities can subscribe to this do your own thing and "no one is really bad" ideology:
Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
This way of thinking and living without answering to any particular standard but our own is made possible when life is viewed without consideration of a Creator for whom His own purpose and intent for His creation is the preminent viewpoint that matters.
King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me.
English Standard Version (©2001)
I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me,
The end result of this perspective is expressed with equal bluntness by the inspired writers:
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
