December 21st 2012 Doomsday passes by?
It's December 21st 2012 and right now a 12:22 CST as write, it doesn't look like the end of world has started breaking out yet. The world might just make it through the day.
I offer a quick bite of Biblical Perspective on the widely proclaimed Mayan prediction which many proclaimed was a prophecy of Apocalypse to occur on this day.
1) The Holy Scriptures provide a very straight forward message concerning any prophesies predicting or proclaiming a specific day for the end of the world:
Mat_24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Reading Matthew 24 Jesus prophesies the SIGNS leading up to the end of the AGE so that Christians should be able to see the day approaching. The prophesies are specific enough to allow us a very strong sense and indication that the end of the age and the Return of the King is approaching and see it getting closer.
At the same time He explicitly states that the precise time, especially to the day and hour IS NOT PREDICTABLE. It is a Divine Secret!
In Mark's recount of the same incident he even adds that this point is time is actually reserved to only the FATHER himself, not even the Angels or the Divine Son at the time knew this prophetic date:
Mar_13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Luke makes it clear that the element of surprise and unpredictability is a critical part of the Divine plan for wrapping up the age:
Luk_12:46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
2) The Bible does prophesy that a true Apocalypse and EPIC "end" of the current age is coming but it is not a real end of the world but a restoration of the world back to it's original destiny.
The "end of world" from a Biblical perspective is not really the end of the "world" but the end of an "Age". The end of this phase of life on earth that we know as humanity and the beginning of a new "Age" under the rightful King of the earth. The earth and heavens itself is to be remade by the same One who had the power to make it in first place but it is never to actually "end" as in cease to exist
Ecc 1:4 One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; and the earth abideth for ever.
It is a "generation" or "age" of the earth that passes. Cataclysmic changes WILL occur but in the end the "world" is burned up only to be reshaped and renewed forever.
Let us go to the Apostle Peter and enhance the translation with the Amplified Bible:
2Pe 3:7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been stored up (reserved) for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly people.
2Pe 3:8 Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape you, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. [Ps. 90:4.]
2Pe 3:9 The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people's conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.
2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will vanish (pass away) with a thunderous crash, and the [material] elements [of the universe] will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.
2Pe 3:11 Since all these things are thus in the process of being dissolved, what kind of person ought [each of] you to be [in the meanwhile] in consecrated and holy behavior and devout and godly qualities,
2Pe 3:12 While you wait and earnestly long for (expect and hasten) the coming of the day of God by reason of which the flaming heavens will be dissolved, and the [material] elements [of the universe] will flare and melt with fire?
2Pe 3:13 But we look for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise, in which righteousness (uprightness, freedom from sin, and right standing with God) is to abide. [Isa. 65:17; 66:22.]
Isaiah's even older revelation confirms the same prophecy
Isa 34:4 All the host of the heavens shall be dissolved and crumble away, and the skies shall be rolled together like a scroll; and all their host [the stars and the planets] shall drop like a faded leaf from the vine, and like a withered fig from the fig tree.
3) To top it all off the Mayans most likely did not predict such a date to begin with. The Mayans inscription and records have been INTERPRETED in various ways and some derived this date as the "end of the world" when they INTERPRETED what the Myans seems to believe.
This is well documented on the Web and elsewhere for anyone that cared to research it such as at this site: http://www.2012hoax.org/maya-prediction
Given the limitations of the source records from the Mayan inscriptions it is no wonder that interpretations could vary wildly as to their meaning.
The Biblical revelations of prophecy are FAR SUPERIOR to the predictions of the Myans or any other ancient text just on the SHEER weight of witnesses, prophets, apostles and righteous seekers that contributed to the revelation!
The Scriptures represent many different authors getting revelation over thousands of years, independent of one another. The writings are not simple stone inscriptions but are DETAILED writings meticulously maintained across multiple generations of both Jewish societies AND Christian societies.
Let us not fall into the trap of looking for answers from inferior sources of spiritual revelation but rather let us TEST all other sources from the most reliable spiritual reference in human history:
2Pe 1:15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
2Pe 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
2Pe 1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
2Pe 1:18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Let God's people take heed first to the "more sure word" of prophecy when examining other so called "revelations" some of which are indeed little more than "cunningly devised fables".
Again, the "Thief in the night" aspect of God's plan means that specific date prophecy such as some ascribed to the Mayans is rejected from the Biblical perspective. The DAY WILL NOT BE KNOWN, it WILL come as a surprise the most of the world.
The righteous will be prepared because they live a life that is always prepared to meet their end.
A true end of world is ultimately appointed for each and every one of us:
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
